Seeds for Tomorrow - Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
Seeds are amazing things. The fruit or flowers die and - miraculously!- a seed forms. This falls to the ground and the cycle of life begins again.
Sometimes, what appears to be a dark unprofitable season is actually very necessary for the beauty that will follow...
Creativity has a cycle too. It's always hard for me to paint very much between Thanksgiving and Christmas but this year I'm prepared with a good supply of high quality linen panels in small sizes and a long list of inspiring ideas I'm excited to try on them. So far I've been able to snatch an hour here and there to get something done every day- even if it's just toning panels one day, doing some drawings the next few days. Then mixing paint and working on several at a time in the same palette of colors. Right now I'm exploring an orange/blue palette- although I admit - I did sneak some cadmium red medium into this one :)
I like to use these petite paintings to study ideas for larger canvases. I experiment with new color palettes, try compositions in several different value combinations or play around with what to leave in or take out. In this way, my small paintings are seeds for tomorrow. They may seem small and insignificant now but given time and nurture- who can tell what may grow?
This is a teeny tiny sketch (5 x 7") of a beautiful overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Bonnie, the Blue Ridge parkway is probably one of the most amazing panoramic vistas to behold!! In decades past, I regularly traveled from Connecticut to Ithaca NY which took me thru the Catskills and skirted the Adirondacks. Glorious in warm weather, treacherous in winter, the curving highways offered majesty, exhilaration, and dances with courage along the well- big-rig- truck-traveled, otherwise desolate stretches. Your BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY COLLECTION reminds me of the LARGE SCALE GRANDEUR! LF...gorgeous series.

I so very much relish the soft focus that you create in your paintings. If this is a tiny sketch, I can't wait to see the finished painting! The field is so rich with texture. like/f
