Sometimes when I go out to paint I begin to wonder along the way whether going down this particular road was such a good idea! The barley was growing pretty tall in the middle of this road and I began to think I should have parked the car and walked! lol But in the end it was worth the journey. The clouds and light flowing across the fields and mountains were gorgeous that day and I really enjoyed painting it.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors. Together, we've gone places -both physically and artistically- I'd never have gone alone.
