A summer sunset from the mountaintop! This is one of my favorite places to paint not far from my home in the Roanoke Valley. It is particularly beautiful at sunset. I could sit there for hours looking out over these peaceful valleys watching the sun set from overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors.
