I've painted this valley several times and never get tired of trying to share the peaceful beauty of this special place. This painting is from Thanksgiving Day 2016 at an overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway called "Devil's Backbone".

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors.
