My sister's sweet dog, Buddy, passed away recently after suffering from Cushing Syndrome. I painted this memento for her as a Christmas present. I was looking up things about the Mittelspitz and it seemed a perfect description of him. Words like attentive, devoted, energetic, teachable and easy to train are used but somehow they don't seem enough... I guess it's always like that with the animals (and people) we love. Words aren't enough to express what they meant in our lives.
The AKC website says "Spitz breed like the German Spitz are captivating on account of their beautiful coats, made to stand off by a plentiful undercoat. Particularly impressive is his strong, mane-like collar around his neck, called a ruff, and the bushy tail carried boldly over his back. His foxy head, alert eyes, and small pointed, closely- set ears give the German Spitz his unique cheeky appearance."

About Bonnie Mason
I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors. Together, we've gone places -both physically and artistically- I'd never have gone alone.
