The title of this piece comes from one of my favorite songs by Kathy Mattea. It begins this way:
"In the shade of this old tree,
In the summer of my dreams,
By the tall grass, by the wild rose,
Where the trees dance, as the wind blows:
As the days go, oh, so slowly,
As the sun shines, oh, so holy,
On the good and gracious green,
In the summer of my dreams...."
Look it up - it's a beautiful song. We always take that cd with us on vacations and listen to it as we're approaching our destination. It's a keeper :)
This is a summertime view of the valley from Roanoke Mountain overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

About Bonnie Mason
I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors. Together, we've gone places -both physically and artistically- I'd never have gone alone.
