I love the shapes the road and the land make.... We were invited to paint at this farm several times. A lovely place in Buchanan, Virginia. The leaves on the trees were just about to burst out and the wild mustard was blooming. It was a little chilly and the breezes were quite stiff. This is a large studio work created with the aid of my plein air pieces.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors. Together, we've gone places -both physically and artistically- I'd never have gone alone.
