Description

The colors this autumn were almost unbelievable! I can never remember having so many reds and oranges so early. We drove up on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park near Waynesboro, VA and were able to spend some time at Turk Mountain overlook. I've painted it before but never on such a sunny day with such beautiful color on the trees. I noticed areas of gray on the mountains and after reading about it realized there is a lot of Erwin quartzite on it which I was seeing as gray patches. The gray certainly enhances the vibrant autumn colors.
